Tadelakt is not just a wall finish to the Artisans who produce it. They work around the product, sit with it, caress and pamper it .... massaging olive soap into the surface with semi precious stones while it dries, taking care not to press too hard or too early. The preparation must be strong and faultless with a solid substrate. The ancient Moroccan limestone has made a long journey from its home in Marrakesh where it was burned in huge fire pits by the local berbers to drive out the oxygen, then blasted with water to hydrolise the calcium forcing the rock to implode into a pile of beautifully textured powdered lime, clay and pozzolans that give this product its unique and endearing properties. Once packaged and shipped to Australia the product is soaked for three days before it is fully re-hydrated to a workable slurry of natural limestone. This can then be re-formed onto a suitable substrate, which has been prepared to accept and adhere to the "Tadelakt" finish .... work can begin !
